Journal Entry #2 - Location| Route 29 Current Party Members| Delicious Emotional State| Bored
So we hit Route 29. It was pretty anti-climactic the second time I walked it. It was pretty much just a neatly groomed dirt path through some scrubs and tall grass. Wooh. Especially since I was already used to the occasional Pokémon bursting from the bushes in front of you across the path, and to the other side. Sure, you could chase them, but they seemed to have the tiniest nooks and crannies to dive into. ... It vaguely reminded me of one of those temporary theme parks they put up in Ecruteak around the fall. The monsters would jump out at you at, just as quickly, fade into another barely noticeable hole in the wall. And so you sat there, confused and trying to find a way out as walls just changed around you. Yup. Route 29 was exactly the same thing. ... I wasn't really sure what I was looking for. To be quite frank, I wouldn't have minded stumbling upon a Pikachu, or maybe a Snover, if I could find one this far South. I had always been into Ice and Thunder types. I wish there was a combination, so I could Zap and Freeze to my hearts content. They were just so awesomely powerful. I'd seen people take down master Dragon trainers with just an Ice Fang from a Feraligatr and Thunderbolts from a Jolteon. I wanted to be able to do that. So I searched with my little Delicious. ... Speaking of Delicious, you're probably wondering why I chose a Fighting type to be my starters. I don't really know why I did. I just know that she was so adorable and stuff. You can't pass over adorable. Adorable is the 8,000 pound gorilla. It just dominates. Kind of like Ice and Electric. ... How quaint.

A gentle breeze blew by my head, and as I frolicked a bit in the breeze, little Delicious began to sniff the air. Glaring around malevolently, she confused me as to her intentions. She began to almost bark at a nearby bush, and I began to stare at the bush as well. Hearing a bit of a CRUNCH, I jumped up and dropped my pencil and journal, raising my fists until I realized that they wouldn't be very useful against a Pokémon. Without any provocation, warning, or command Delicious sprinted into the bush with a Quick Attack, determined to catch the beast by surprise.

Little Charmander would give a sudden yowl of suprise as Delicious rushed him. He would get hit right in the stomach, sending him back a good ten feet, tumbling over himself. He would then get up slowly, scared to death by your finding of him, and growl in self defense. It would continue to look at you and your pokemon warily, watching your every move.

Delicious growled and began to coil up, but I called her off. "No. Calm down. This is our first fight together, and we have to think this through. He's probably going to dodge another Quick Attack, so-" Delicious made a move forward, and I waved my arms in frustration. "No, no, no! Calm down! Try using Foresight first to scope out the landscape and this little.. Charmander, I think. Then you can try to attack again with Quick Attack. Now, go Delicious, go!" Delicious glared a little at me for holding her back, but gave a slight nod of understanding. I generally assumed this meant she knew what she was doing. Then, her eyes began glowing as she absorbed all the information about the Charmander and the environment around her. Once she finished, she again leaped at Charmander with amazing speed using Quick Attack.

The Charmander was expecting the Quick Attack, but not the move before hand. He couldn't really understand what the enemy pokemon was doing, so it just rushed ahead with a Scratch Technique. When the Riolu charged with a Quick Attack, Charmander was prepared. It rolled to the right, barely barely missing the attack. It was quite proud of itself by doing so, and with that done, it decided to try and hide in the bushes to catch your pokemon off guard.

The aborted Scratch attack had scraped up Delicious's flank, and she paused for a moment to lick it clean. It didn't look too bad, but it would hurt if the battle continued.
I stepped back and stared around. Where was that Charmander?! The little bugger had run off and neither of us could find him. Or maybe her. But I had another idea, and so I called out to Delicious a second time. "Hey, Delicious! Try an Endure so you can't be totally taken out. Then, use Foresight again to try and see if you can find him; he has to come out eventually!"
Delicious steeled her self and tensed up before again scanning the bushes with glowing eyes. Unable to find anything, she sat there waiting for the Charmander to come out and attack her.

The Charmander smiled with joy as he found that neither the trainer nor the meany pokemon could find him. He snickered a bit, and hoped that nobody heard him. When the time was right, when the Riolu was looking the other way, the Charmander jumped out of the bushes, screaming some war cry before attempting another flying Scratch.

Delicious froze as she saw the Charmander hurtling towards her, and only the Endure saved her from a good bit of damage. Reeling in shock and surprise from the blow, she staggered back before shaking it off. Panting a bit, she looked at me for some more directions. I bit my lip and thought hard for a few moments. I needed to attack two more times at the least to be able to catch this Charmander.
"Alright, Delicious. We only need to hit him a couple more times! He'll be off balance after that flying attack, so Quick Attack one more time, then use Quick Attack a second time, but this time to hide in the bushes. We're going to give him a whole bottle of his own medicine!"
Delicious nodded, then sprinted towards the enemy Charmander for a third time. The dust she kicked up blocked my view, and I couldn't tell whether or not she had hit the wild Charmander. But regardless, I still saw her sprint out of the cloud and into the bushes.

The Charmander was indeed off-balance by that flying attack, and was hit soundly by your Quick Attack - a Critical Hit, in fact. They tiny Flame Lizard stumbled, obviously sporting some hefty damage to it. Another attack would not be necessary, this Pokemon was ready for capture.

I smiled as I saw the Charmander stumble, proof that I had indeed taken advantage of his blunder. I nodded at Delicious and she retreated back to my side. I then rustled through my bag, looking for a Pokéball. Finding one, I took a deep breath, and lobbed it at the injured lizard. As it flew through the air I released the breath of air and watched anxiously.
"Well Delicious, it looks like you might just have company soon!" I smiled, but she gave me a mixed look none-the-less, growling a bit under her breath. Flustered, I snapped back at her, "Well I can't live my life talking to one organism, now can I?! So you just be grateful that I risk my life to keep you company. HAPPY?!"
Panting, I stared her down as she whimpered a bit and retreated to my leg. Forgetting about why I had been yelling at my Riolu, I looked back at where the Charmander had been a couple seconds ago.

Without much resistance at all, the pokéball stopped shaking around and the beautiful *ding* emitted from it, indicating that the capture endeavor had been a successful one.

I breathed a sigh of relief as it stopped vibrating. I immediately walked over and grabbed the PokéBall, dusting it off on my shorts. Admiring the polished surface as well as my handiwork, I pressed the large, circular button. The usual beam of red light shot out and coalesced into my new Pokémon. Grinning, I patted him on the head. "WELCOME TO THE TEAM!" I screamed. He covered his ears and backed a couple steps backwards, so I calmed a bit down. "You're going to fit right in! Your new name is Yummy! To go with Delicious. Y'know. Yummy and Delicious. Ahh, whatever. We're going to keep on heading towards Cherrygrove, so we need to go fast. But before that..."[/color] As I busied myself rustling through my bag, I saw the two Pokémon communicating. «Welcome to the club. You should probably regret joining, but it looks like you don't really have a choice anymore. At least we have baked goods! Oh. Right. I'm Delicious. His starter. His favorite. So don't mess. You'll get burned.»«I don't think I can get burned, I'm kind of a fire type. Y'know. Resilient to fire. That's why my tail is on fire and I don't reall-»«Be quiet! No disagreeing!»I pulled out a little spray-bottles from my pack and sprayed Yummy with it. When Delicious stared me down, I plucked a berry from a nearby bush and shoved it at her. She took on it and munched on it delicately. Shortly afterwards we were all ready to go, and with the sun high in the sky we continued marching on down the dirt path. I slowly walked by the Paras, trying not to catch its attention. I murmured to my two Pokémon, "Ewww. It's a Paras. Ignore it and maybe it won't bother us. I mean, what is it? Is it a mushroom, is it a crab, is it a spider?! C'mon, move slooowly." I motioned at my Pokémon to be quiet until we got past the... thing. Breathing a sigh of relief, I continued walking, as I could see the lights of Cherrygrove city off in the distance.
