Hitaru walked down Route 29, a light breeze at his back that encouraged him forward. The sun was making it's way up the sky, a light blue-hue filled the cloudless expanse. It was a gorgeous day outside, a day that seemed to pull Hitaru along with an unseen force toward a destiny that lay far into the future. Ikasu, the pink Nidoran that was Hitaru's faithful companion, walked along beside him, enjoying the rays of warmth that fell to the earth and upon his back.
"Well, Ikasu, we should look for a Pokemon for you to battle! You've gotten so strong already, but you're going to need to be even stronger if we're to beat the Elite Four!"
Ikasu growled in agreement, his sharp head swiveling as he scanned for Pokemon to engage. Suddenly, his head snapped to the duo's right, a rustling noise emanating from the tall grass there. Ikasu growled menacingly in that direction, and Hitaru tensed, awaiting the Pokemon to emerge from hiding.

A level 6 Wooper appears! Male Jolly A Wooper hops out of the grass, merrily chasing bugs.

A tiny blue Pokemon leaped out of the tall grass, not seeming to notice the Trainer and his Pokemon standing ready to attack. Hitaru reached into his pocket and retrieved the Pokedex residing within and scanned the blue creature.
"Wooper, the Water Fish Pokémon. Though they prefer to live in cold water, these appealing Pokémon forage for food on land. They are kept warm by a layer of insulating body fluid. Wooper is the pre-evolved form of Quagsire."
"A Wooper huh? Little guy seems kinda clumsy. Alright Ikasu, you're up."
Ikasu moved like a lightning bolt toward the oblivious Wooper. He shifted his weight to the left slightly, and leaped forward, aiming a Peck attack at the Wooper's large head. Should the attack connect, Ikasu would then follow with a debilitating Leer attack. If not, he would back up, preparing himself to dodge any attack the enemy might launch.

As soon as your pokédex sounded, the Wooper noticed you and Ikasu. It started happily waddling towards the two of you, hoping it had found new friends. These hopes were dashed quite quickly, as soon as Ikasu came charging at it. It leapt to the side and rolled, clumsily dodging your attack. It was covered in dirt, but at least it was unharmed. It jumped back up and cried out before it shot a Water Gun at your little pink buddy.

Ikasu's attack missed, no thanks to the little plastic encyclopedia in his Master's hands. Thankfully, Ikasu was able to regain his composure from the missed Peck attack and efficiently dodge the Water Gun attack aimed at him. He struck back with a glare, the Leer attack. Should the stare terrify the Wooper, Ikasu would attack with Peck next, hoping to land some solid damage onto his opponent. If not, Ikasu would focus his body and mind, preparing to launch more attacks [Focus Energy]. Hitaru watched as the Wooper dodged the attack, although quite clumsily. He placed the Encyclopedia back into the pocket from which it had come, and then watched Ikasu fight. The Nidoran was an excellent fighter, and orders from Hitaru were not needed.
"You can do it Ikasu! Go!"

The Wooper received the full effect of the Leer attack directed at him. He stood frozen in fear before getting harshly sent to the ground by Peck attack. It shook a bit in pain as it regained its footing and shot another Water Gun attack at the now closer Ikasu. The Peck attack had done some damage, but Wooper still had plenty of fight left in him.

Ikasu attempted to dodge the incoming Water Gun attack, but the distance did not leave him enough time to react. It hit the male Nidoran on the right flank, pushing him backwards slightly. However, Ikasu shook off the attack, and continued his own.
Utilizing his speed, Ikasu drove forward toward the enemy Wooper. Like an arrow loosed from a bow, Ikasu attacked again with a Peck attack. From here, he planned several steps: Should the attack hit, he would then put some distance between his target and himself. From then he would use Focus Energy and prepare to attack again with a Critical strike. If not, another Leer would greet the doomed Wooper.

Once again, the Wooper crashed to the ground, as a result of the direct hit. The poor pokémon had been simply minding his own business, enjoying the day. Now, he was getting his @ss handed to him by this male nidoran. Even his attempts at being friendly were disregarded! The life of a wild pokémon was a rough one, but the Wooper had grown fairly used to it. Thinking of what would happen to his children should he lose, he filled himself with determination.
Instead of shooting another Water Gun at this foe, he simply waved his tail around, performing Tail Whip attack. As the Poison-type continued to gain distance, the Wooper knew he had enough time to perform another. Hopefully, this would weaken the attack of his enemy, so he could at least put up a good fight.

Ikasu grew tired of fighting with this tiny little mud-fish. The Tail Whip foiled his previous attack and lowered his defense slightly. Luckily the Wooper didn't follow up with another attack. Ikasu backed up slightly, focusing intently on ending this battle. Again the Red Aura surrounded the Nidoran Male - his Focus Energy technique. Running at full speed, Ikasu launched a Peck attack, hopefully the final one.

Hitaru congratulated Ikasu as the Wooper fell over, unconscious. Their celebration was short, however, as both were eager to continue their search for Pokemon. Wandering through the woods, they soon came upon a small pond.
"This must be where the Wooper came from Ikasu." The pink Nidoran nodded in agreement, his eyes sweeping the area for any would-be attackers. Hitaru walked over to the edge of the water, peering into it's depths. He had heard of a Pokemon, a Magikarp, that when trained enough evolved into the mighty Gyarados. "Ikasu, we're gonna capture a Magikarp. Look for one in the water, will ya?" Ikasu nodded, and the two went to work searching for the Fish Pokemon. LV 7 A Magikarp flops out of the water, flying in a manner in which it would land right on your face should you not do anything.

Hitaru reacted quickly. The Magikarp was a large fish, and it would hurt a lot if it hit him in the face. Taking two quick steps backwards, Hitaru caught the orange fish in a gentle yet strong grip.
"Woah there little fellow! It's okay, we aren't going to hurt you."
Hitaru looked toward Ikasu, still holding the Magikarp, for translation. Ikasu nodded in agreement.
"Nido-nido-ni! Nidoran-ni-nido. Nidoran!"
"My trainer is very interested in you Magikarp. He wishes for you to join us. He is very kind and will take great care of you and make you strong, maybe even evolve into a Gyarados. Would you like to join us?"
Hitaru relaxed his grip on the fish, trusting that Ikasu had convinced the large creature. A Gyarados would be a magnificent addition once the Magikarp evolved.
"So Magikarp, what'd ya say? Will you join us?"

The Magikarp would flop around happily at your invitation. It was sick of being made fun of due to it being considerably weak and believed that your mentorship will help alleviate its insecurities.

Hitaru saw the Magikarp's happy face, and lightly tapped it with a Pokeball. It didn't struggle, and Hitaru clipped the depressed ball onto his belt. He would like to keep the Pokemon out of it's Pokeball, but it needed water to survive, and therefore it would have to remain inside.
'Until it evolves into the mighty Gyarados...'
Hitaru and Ikasu continued to walk along, looking for another Pokemon that was said to live in the area.
